Indigo; Simply French

If you're scared of small portions and love French food, then I recommend Indigo, which is a well-known and established French in the Silom area. French food is one of the world's finest culinary cuisines, and its multifarious nature makes it a delight to choose from.

French food has always been a source of inspiration for me. I watched the movie 'The Hundred-Foot Journey' as a child, and I fell in love with cooking and the masters that train their entire lives to perfect their crafts—indeed, role models and artists in the culinary world. Whereas Italian food is about ingredients, french is about technique; needless to say, both elements are essential to either cuisine. French food should exude quality in preparation when done correctly, and I especially love the use of herbs like thyme, tarragon, rosemary, parsley, and chives in dishes.

Beef Tartare
Beef Tartare

Indigo’s French food exemplifies great flavours but is rough around the edges regarding skill and presentation. Their Tartare was prepared fresh near our table, but not tableside. There was no sense of pride in preparing. That being said, it was delicious. Just the right balance for tartar, which is very important. I liked that they made it slightly spicy and the portion was definitely enough as a main.

Terrine was meaty and delicious with the bread and jam.


Beef Bourguignon

Indigo has delicious and lofty portions, but the attention to detail regarding service and plating is lacking. The escargots are served in little porcelain cups, which are easier to eat with, but the usual metal plates used to serve escargots traditionally leave the delicious herb-flavoured oil for you to dip bread into. The way that Indigo plates its food is very dull but there is a charm in this almost home-cooking style of plating. Indigo is a great choice if you enjoy French food and want a more casual experience. The taste of the food is most important after all.
